Instagram’s new Trial Reels feature lets creators experiment with content privately before sharing it. Here’s how it works and why you should try it.
What are Trial Reels?
Trial Reels allow you to test new reel ideas privately. These reels are visible only to you and won’t appear on your main profile grid, Reels tab, or followers’ feeds unless you decide to make them public.
How to share a Trial Reel
- Create your reel as usual.
- Toggle the “Trial” option before sharing.
- Find your trial reel alongside your drafts in your profile.
Note: Some followers might still see your trial reel indirectly via shared audio pages, location tags, or filters.
Performance insights and next steps
Within 24 hours, you can view key engagement metrics like views, likes, comments, and shares. Instagram also compares the performance of your trial reel to previous ones.
If your trial reel performs well, you can “Share with Everyone” or set it to share automatically if it receives enough views within 72 hours. Public reels appear on your profile grid and reach a broader audience.
Early testers report positive results, with fresh ideas resonating with both new and existing audiences.
Trial Reels are rolling out globally and will be available to eligible creators in the coming weeks. Check Instagram’s Help Center for more details.
