Google has announced plans to test ads within its AI Overviews, according to Philipp Schindler, Google’s Senior Vice President and Chief Business Officer.
During a recent earnings call, Schindler mentioned that the company would soon start testing search and shopping ads in AI Overviews for U.S. users.
This initiative, originally announced at Google Marketing Live in May, aims to integrate ads within AI-generated content in a way that is relevant to both user queries and the information provided by the AI Overview.
The ads will be clearly labeled as sponsored content.
Schindler emphasized the innovative potential of this approach, which seeks to balance the needs of users, advertisers, and publishers.
Early testing suggests that users find these ads helpful, particularly when they appear above and below the AI-generated content.
This testing phase will begin as a small experiment in the U.S., with Google committed to refining the experience based on feedback from all stakeholders involved.
