How to Add Carousel Ads to Feed-Based Demand Gen Campaigns

If you’re running Demand Gen campaigns in Google Ads, you might have noticed that Feed-based campaigns typically allow only Image, Video, and Product Ads. But what if we told you there’s a way to add Carousel Ads as well? Helen Gietmann discovered a simple yet effective trick to bypass these limitations and integrate Carousel Ads into Feed-based Demand Gen campaigns—without breaking any rules.

Step-by-step guide to adding Carousel Ads

Follow these steps to integrate Carousel Ads into your Feed-based Demand Gen campaign:

1. Set up two Demand Gen campaigns
  • First, ensure you have a Feed-based Demand Gen campaign already set up.

  • Then, create a new Demand Gen campaign without a Feed and start setting up a Carousel Ad.

2. Create Your Carousel Ad
  • Fill out all required fields.

  • Add up to 10 cards to your Carousel Ad.

  • Ensure the content aligns with your products from the Feed-based campaign to maintain relevance.

3. Copy the Carousel Ad
  • Once the Carousel Ad is created, save it.

  • Select the ad, click on “Edit” -> “Copy”.

4. Paste the Carousel Ad into Your Feed-Based Campaign
  • Navigate to your Feed-based Demand Gen campaign.

  • Go to the Ads section and paste the Carousel Ad into this campaign.

5. Watch the Magic Happen 🪄
  • Now, you’ll see the Carousel Ad appear in your Feed-based campaign!

6. Duplicate & Scale
  • After successfully adding one Carousel Ad, you can duplicate it within the campaign.

  • Interestingly, Google recognizes these ads as Image and Product Ads, but they retain their full Carousel functionality.

7. Does It Work?

Absolutely! Even though Google Ads doesn’t officially support Carousel Ads in Feed-based Demand Gen campaigns, this trick ensures the ad gets traffic and performs just like any other Demand Gen ad.
