AI-powered gift idea exploration
Finding the right gift for someone can be a challenge, especially if you’re not sure where to start. That’s where generative AI comes in. Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) now offers a remarkable feature that generates customized gift ideas based on specific search phrases.
Let’s say you’re looking for a gift for a home cook. Simply search for “great gifts for home cooks”, and you’ll be presented with a wide variety of subcategories to explore, such as specialty tools, artisanal ingredients, culinary subscriptions, and even cooking classes. This feature allows you to delve into different categories and browse through shoppable gift options from both major brands and small businesses.
Generative AI takes this experience a step further by enabling you to refine your search and cater to the unique preferences of the gift recipient. For example, if you’re looking for gifts for home cooks who love pasta, the AI will provide you with more specific options, like pasta-making kits and cookbooks.
SGE is designed to inspire exploration, providing links to helpful content from publishers and displaying shopping ads throughout the experience. It opens up new opportunities for discovering exciting products and gift ideas from a wide range of sources. If you’re in the United States and have already opted into SGE, you can start using this feature in the Google app (Android and iOS) and on Chrome desktop today. Otherwise, you can easily opt in through Search Labs.
Shopping via AI-generated images
When it comes to shopping for clothing, sometimes it’s hard to find exactly what you have in mind. Google is now leveraging generative AI to address this challenge. This new feature, rolling out in the United States in December, allows users to generate images based on their search queries and then explore similar shoppable products.
Trying on clothes virtually has become increasingly popular, and Google is taking this concept to the next level with its AI-powered virtual try-on technology.
Now, Google is expanding its virtual try-on capabilities to include men’s tops. When you search for “men’s tops” in the Google app or from any mobile browser in the United States, you’ll be presented with results from hundreds of brands. These results will include a “try-on” icon, indicating that you can virtually see how the clothing item looks on different models.
