Google Ads Editor 2.9: Key Updates & New Features

Google Ads Editor has rolled out its 2.9 update, bringing a range of new features and enhancements to improve campaign management. Below, we’ll break down the key updates in a simple and informative way.

What’s new in Google Ads Editor 2.9?

1. Support for MCC-owned labels

Google Ads Manager Account (MCC) labels can now be attached to campaigns, ad groups, keywords, and ads in child accounts. While these labels can’t be created or edited in Editor, they can be applied like traditional labels.

2. Expanded shopping ad capabilities

Performance Max campaigns with a shopping setting now allow ads to show on brand-related search terms that were previously blocked due to brand exclusions.

3. Vertical Video Generation for Responsive Video Ads

A new “Generate vertical videos” option is now available for Video Views campaigns (VVC), making it easier to optimize for mobile-friendly formats.

4. Support for masthead ads

Users can now create and manage Masthead ads and Masthead ad groups directly in Google Ads Editor.

5. Video enhancements for Demand Gen ads

A new “AutoTrim” feature allows advertisers to generate shorter versions of Demand Gen Video ads automatically.

6. VRC ad group conversion tool

VRC 1.0 ad groups in Standard Video campaigns will now be flagged for conversion when copied into VRC 2.0 campaigns. A “Convert” link helps seamlessly update these ad groups to match the new format.

7. Age exclusions in Performance Max campaigns

Advertisers can now set negative age criteria at the campaign level, allowing more refined targeting.

8. Enhanced CPC deprecation

Editor will now report an error if Enhanced CPC is enabled alongside Maximize Clicks or Manual CPC strategies in Search and Display campaigns.

9. Content Exclusions Update

Content exclusions are now only available in Search Standard and Display campaigns, and no longer apply to Video or Demand Gen campaigns.

10. New customer acquisition for shopping campaigns

Shopping campaigns now support the new customer acquisition goal, previously exclusive to Search and Performance Max campaigns.

11. Improved Google Sheets integration

Multi-tab export and import allow each entity type to be stored in separate tabs, making data management easier. Additionally, local edits can now be highlighted with color when exporting to Sheets.

12. Inventory control for Demand Gen campaigns

A new “Channels” inventory control setting is now available for Demand Gen ad groups.

13. Deep link fixing recommendation

A new “Fix misconfigured deep links” recommendation provides a direct link to the Deep Link Validator tool for troubleshooting.

14. Pause the ad image field for video ads

A new optional “Pause ad image” field is available for responsive video ads, primarily for Video reservation campaigns but applicable to all video campaigns.

15. Ad preview for responsive search ads and asset groups

Google Ads Editor now offers an Ad Preview link for responsive search ads and asset groups, giving a realistic preview of how ads will appear before they go live.
