What’s New in Google Ads API v19.1? (April 2025 Update)

Google has just released version 19.1 of the Google Ads API, bringing a range of improvements across campaign types, assets, Demand Gen, Shopping, video ads, and more.

This update adds 11 new features, modifies 23, and removes none — giving advertisers more tools and flexibility without breaking changes. Below is a breakdown of the key updates, simplified for marketers and developers alike.

🔧 Assets: Smarter optimization tips

  • New asset_coverage field in Asset Groups now shows where you’re missing creative.

  • It includes ad_strength_action_items, a helpful list of actions to improve your ad strength score.

📈 Campaign enhancements

  • Lead feedback for local services ads: You can now rate leads and send feedback using the new LocalServicesLeadService.

  • New app campaign metric: biddable_cohort_app_post_install_conversions added.

💡 Demand Gen campaigns: More control

  • Channel selection at Ad Group level — pick where your ads run (YouTube Shorts, Gmail, Discover, etc.).

  • New asset support: TALL_PORTRAIT_MARKETING_IMAGE added for rich vertical creatives.

  • Forecasting support: Get reach and conversion forecasts using DEMAND_GEN_MAX_CONVERSIONS.

    • CAMPAIGN_BUDGET

🎯 Conversions: More flexibility

  • You can now:

    • Set google_ads_conversion_customer when creating a new account.

    • Use new session_attributes for ClickConversion.

  • Feedback loop improved with:

    • ProvideLeadFeedback method.

    • lead_feedback_submitted tracking.

📐 Planning services & forecasting

  • Monthly frequency forecasts: Set TargetFrequencyTimeUnit.MONTHLY for planning.

  • New conversion forecasting API: GenerateConversionRates suggests expected performance.

  • Demand Gen reach forecasts now include conversion projections — ideal for performance planning.

📌 Recommendations

  • Performance Max suggestions now show ad strength scores within the ImprovePerformanceMaxAdStrengthRecommendation.

🛍 Shopping ads

  • Retail-specific brand overrides: You can override brand exclusions in PMax for Retail. Just make sure your campaign supports it — otherwise, you’ll see an error.

🎥 Video & audio ads

  • Audio ads support (read-only):

    • New subtype: YOUTUBE_AUDIO

    • New metrics: coviewed_impressions, primary_impressions

    • New segments: adjusted_age_range, adjusted_gender
