Google recently issued an apology to advertisers for a technical issue that resulted in product ads being displayed on other advertisers’ ads. This issue began on July 30th and affected a number of accounts.
Google was quick to reassure advertisers that no personally identifiable information (PII) or payment information was compromised. Additionally, the affected accounts were not billed for these misplaced ads.
By July 31st, Google fixed the problem, removed the incorrect data from the affected reports, and sent out apology emails to the impacted advertisers.
According to Google’s statement, this issue was not related to the ongoing migration to Google Merchant Center Next (GMC Next).
The incident was first spotted by Thomas Eccel on LinkedIn.
