GA4 Update: Google Adds Anomalies, Key Event Tracking, and Improved Acquisition Reports

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) has recently rolled out an update that introduces powerful new tools and enhancements designed to give you deeper insights and greater control over your data. Whether you’re looking to identify key trends, improve reporting, or better understand your audience’s behavior, these new features will make a noticeable impact on how you analyze data. Here’s a breakdown of the latest updates.

  1. Enhanced visualization with plot rows: GA4 now allows you to visualize up to five rows of data simultaneously within your detailed reports using the new plot rows feature. By simply selecting your desired rows and clicking the “Plot rows” button, you can generate comparison lines for each row, making it easier to spot trends and conduct a quick analysis.
  2. Anomaly detection in detail reports: GA4 will automatically flag unusual fluctuations in your data, helping you identify potential issues, unexpected traffic spikes, or sharp declines.
  3. Helpful report descriptions: Understanding complex reports is now easier with report descriptions. Hovering over any report title reveals a brief explanation of the report’s purpose along with a helpful link to learn more.
  4. Marking key events in Event reports: To make your event tracking more efficient, you can now mark key events in the Event report. By clicking on the three dots menu at the end of each event row, you can label important events as “key events.” This allows you to prioritize the most significant actions on your site or app, such as purchases, sign-ups, or other critical interactions.
  5. New transaction ID report for revenue insights: This new report provides detailed information about individual transactions using the transaction_id parameter.
  6. Acquisition report scope changes: The User acquisition report now focuses on user-related metrics such as Total users, New users, and Returning users, while the Traffic acquisition report provides session-based metrics like Sessions, Engaged sessions, and Sessions per event.
